Mission Bay 2004 (5th Year – raised $25,000)
The support of our sponsors allowed us to promote the event further afield. Major spot prizes including a trip for 2 to Sydney were introduced. Murray Hunter joined our team as our ideas man and the event was listed on internet running calendars for the first time. The event grew to 300 and raised another $25,000 for ADRA. The ADRA blankets were blue again this year. Click on the photo to see photo slideshow.imageimageimageimageimageimage
Mission Bay 2003 (4th Year – raised $26,000)
This is the year that Weetbix joined us as our principal sponsor. The now famous ADRA Blanket made its debut (Navy Blue). The 42km marathon was dropped given that our volunteers were enduring an extra 3 hours of hot sun to service a small handful of hard out marathoners in favour of the more popular half and 10km. The course was altered to take in a much larger lap between the city and the St Heliers loop (as it is today). The event grew only slightly to about 120 and raised another $26,000 for ADRA. Mission Bay 2002 (3rd Year – raised $22,000)
Distances again included the full marathon, half marathon, 10km and 5km. Numbers swelled to 90. T-shirts were given to all runners as a participation gift, and the event was based at the Orakei Domain at the last minute due to a double booking mistake by someone at the Council (they were deeply apologetic!) This had the added challenge of crossing Tamaki Drive at the Zebra Crossing on the sprint to the finish, but had no adverse effects on the day. Total raised was $22,000. Mission Bay 2001 (2nd Year – raised $17,000)
Given the success of the previous year, plans were made to hold another run. Again the full marathon featured, along with the half, the 10 and the 5km. An entry fee was introduced and some advertising was done. The run increased to 70, and a total of $17,000 was raised. Click on the photo to see photo slideshow.imageimageimageimageimageimage
Mission Bay 2000 (Inaugrual Year – raised $18,000)
It all started as an idea to raise some money for people in need. Word spread around a couple of friends, and plans were made. The first ever ADRA Charity Run was born. Distances included 42.2km marathon (8 laps), 21.1km marathon (4 laps), 10km (2 laps) and a 5km (1 lap). Several volunteers made the event possible and a total of $18,000 was raised for ADRA! The highest individual total was $5,000 which remains the record to this day! Click on the photo to see photo slideshow.imageimageimageimageimageimage
